This collection contains a small selection of archives relating to Pitt Street.
Pitt Street is a street within the central business district (CBD) of Sydney. It was named in honour of the British Prime Minister, William Pitt the Younger.
Pitt Street currently runs parallel to George Street. Pitt Street commences at Circular Quay and runs south to Waterloo. However, it is divided by Central Station. Pitt Street Mall, built in 1987, is a pedestrian and retail area between King and Market Streets.
Sydney's first tram went (horse-drawn) went from the old Sydney railway station to Circular Quay along Pitt Street from 1861. Trams continued to operate along Pitt Street until 1957.
