South Sydney City Council Finance and Administration Department

Unique IDAG-0031DescriptionThe Finance and Administration Department of South Sydney City Council was established by the City of Sydney Act 1988. The Act was proclaimed on 2 December 1988 to take effect from 1 January 1989.

The Act split the former Sydney City Council into two Councils - Sydney City Council and South Sydney City Council.

The Finance and Administration Department inherited all of the functions for the South Sydney area belonging to CA 12, City Treasury Department and most of the functions belonging to CA 3, Administration Department. It consists of two main branches - the Budget Manager's Branch and the Corporate Services Manager's Branch.

The Budget Manager's Branch performs the following functions: receipt of all monies, debt recovery, accounts receivable, rents, investments, loans, levying of rates, payment of all monies owed by Council, and management of the budget and ledger.

The Corporate Services Manager's Branch is responsible for: purchasing and stores, preparation of agenda and business papers for Council meetings, management of Council elections, the PABX, records management, legal services, property management, and administration of the parking stations.

It appears the Finance and Administration department ceased some time in 1995-96, and was replaced by a department purely concerned with financial management, and a new Corporate Services departmentCreationSchedule gazetted pursuant to clauses 4 & 7 of Schedule 3 of the City of Sydney Act 1988, 2 December 1988AbolitionAnnual report 1995-96 refers to a Finance dept and a (new) Corporate Services dept.
