South Sydney City Council Parks and Properties Department

Unique IDAG-0035DescriptionThe Parks Department of South Sydney City Council was established by the City of Sydney Act 1988. The Act was proclaimed on 2 December 1988 to take effect from 1 January 1989.

The Act split the former Sydney City Council into two Councils - Sydney City Council and South Sydney City Council.

The Parks Department inherited most of the functions belonging to CA 10, Parks and Recreations Department, except for recreation facilities, which became the responsibility of South Sydney's Health and Community Services Department. Under a cross-servicing agreement, South Sydney City Council's Parks Department (Works and Services Department from 1992) contracted to carry out maintenance of parks within Sydney City Council's boundaries. This arrangement ceased in 1993 and responsibility for maintenance of parks went to CA 137, Urban Services Division.

The SSCC 1990 Annual Report also notes this agency having responsibility for all Council-owned properties
