Major Building and Development and City Planning Committee

Unique IDAG-0057DescriptionThe Major Building and Development and City Planning Committee was created on 16 September 1985 to replace CA 56, City Planning Committee and various other smaller committees. It also acquired responsibility for approving development and building applications valued at over $200,000 from CA 59, Building and Development Committee. Applications under this amount were retained by CA 59.

It was also responsible for approval or disapproval of subdivisions, the coordination of public participation in the Committee's activities, implementation of the strategic plan, planning and modification of new and existing public ways and parcels of land, vehicle parking, vehicle and pedestrian traffic movement, and tenders and quotations.

The new committee took over the functions of the following special committees: the Woolloomooloo Technical Liaison Committee, the 1977 City of Sydney Plan Review Committee, the Technical Working Party for the development of Redfern Railway Station, the Advisory Committee supporting Council's Employment Development Officer, the Macquarie Street Traffic Study Coordination Group, the Committee to engage Transport/Traffic Study consultants for the Inner Eastern Sydney Transport Group, the Committee investigating brothels in the East Sydney area, the Sydney Traffic Committee, the Traffic and Transport Planning Unit Project Liaison Committee, and the Committee investigating ways to assist new and existing firms in the City.
