Unique IDAG-0056DescriptionThe City Planning Committee was created on 10 October 1977 with Alderman Andrew Briger as its Chairman. It was responsible for implementing the City of Sydney Strategic Plan; parking; pedestrian and vehicular traffic movements; and tenders and quotations relating to its functions. In 1978, Alderman Jeremy Bingham became the Chairman.
In 1980 the Committee was expanded and renamed the Planning and Development Committee and acquired the following responsibilities from CA 48, Works Committee I: approving or refusing subdivisions, building and development applications, implementing Part XI and XII of the Local Government Act, Ordinance No 70 - Buildings, implementing the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979, and implementing Council policies affecting streets, other than engineering maintenance works.
In 1982, the Committee was again reorganised. It lost the functions acquired in 1980 to the newly created CA 59, Building and Development Committee, and reverted to its former name, City Planning Committee.
In 1985, the City Planning Committee, the Building and Development Committee, and a host of special committees were abolished and integrated into a bigger committee, CA 57, Major Building and Development and City Planning Committee, 1985-1987.CreationResolution of Council 10 October 1977AbolitionResolution of Council 16 September 1985
