Building and Development Committee
Unique IDAG-0059DescriptionFrom 1 January 1982 South Sydney Municipal Council was re-amalgamated with Sydney City Council under the Local Government (City of Sydney Boundaries) Act 1982. On 18 January 1982 Council reorganised its various standing committees.
Responsibility for subdivisions, building and development regulation, implementing Part XI and XII of the Local Government Act, Ordinance No 70 - Buildings, the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979, and Council policies affecting streets (other than engineering maintenance works), were removed from CA 56, City Planning Committee, and given to a new committee, CA 59, Building and Development Committee. The town planning function stayed with the City Planning Committee.
The new committee was also responsible for convening public meetings from time to time to encourage public participation in the activities of Council, and supervising "the moulding of growth and change, so as to achieve the best welfare and well being of the whole community, coupled with justice for the individual".
On 1 May 1984, Council decided to remove authority for approving projects valued at over $200,000 from the Building and Development Committee, and vest them in a new committee, CA 60, Building and Development Committee (Major). This new Committee only existed until September 1984, when the function was restored to the Building and Development Committee.
In 1985 however, the authority to approve major projects was removed from it yet again when CA 57, Major Building and Development and City Planning Committee was created. In 1987 the Committee was finally abolished when CA 39, Planning Committee I, was created.CreationResolution of Council 18 January 1982AbolitionResolution of Council 7 April 1987
