Unique IDAG-0229DescriptionAt its inaugural meeting on 3 January 1989, the South Sydney City Council established CA 229, SSCC Planning and Building Committee 1989 - 2004 (later known as the Planning and Development Committee), along with CA 232, SSCC Finance Committee, 1989-2004, CA 230, SSCC Community Services Committee, 1989-2004, and CA 231, SSCC Works Committee, 1989-1995. The Committee's main responsibility was to oversee all matters relating to development and building applications, subdivisions and strata subvisions. It was also responsible for making recommendations relating to regulations and policies, statutory and strategic planning, traffic and pedestrians.

After the resolution of Council of 18 September 1995, the Committee's name was changed to CA 229, SSCC Planning and Development Committee, 1989-2004, and at which time it absorbed the responsibilities of CA 231, SSCC Works Committee, 1989-1995. These extra responsibilities included overseeing departmental maintenance and the acquistion and development of land or buildings other than for park purposes, street construction and drainage, engineering works, cleansing, fruit barrows and licensing of footways in conjunction with outdoor eateries. It was also responsible for managing the Council's parking facilities including the Moore Street parking area.

The Committee met on the first and third Wednesday of each month at 6:30 pm at the Council Chambers Erskineville Road, Erskineville. The Committee comprised of five members and the quorum was three members.
