Provision of training and education to Council employees as part of their employment, by on-the-job traning courses, apprenticeships, short courses managed by Council training officers or provided by external trainers, and support for Council employees to undertake work-related courses of external study.
By 28/2/1907 the Finance Committee was discussing giving leave to block boys who had served three years with the Council so that they could pursue a trade or further their education.
The Electric Lighting Committee Minutes from 1916 included mention by the City Electrical Engineer that under the Wages Board Award the Council must bear the cost of fees charged to apprentices by the Technical College while in the Council's employ as well as any extra fees charged for the taking of a Diploma course (CRS 14/9, 6 & 20 March 1916).CreationSubject to research. Senior managers were sometimes sent on trips to other parts of Australia, and internationally, to learn about aspects of municipal management, from at least the 1920s when the General Manager of the Electricity Dept was sent to the UK and North America. Trades apprenticeships may have been available within the Council from the late C19.
