In May 1901, the occupant of 140 Campbell Street wrote to council asking for inspectors to call because the house was ‘getting into a very unsatisfactory condition’ due to landlord neglect. The inspection was carried out on 8 June 1901, and this photograph was taken five days later. The timber weatherboard house has steps leading down to a painted brick outbuilding with sandstone foundations. There is a wooden shed with a 'chicken coop' attached. A clothes prop supports a double washing line. The yard of the adjoining house at number 142 was photographed at the same time.
