An advertisement for the Dark Yankee Doodle brand features a representation of Archibald M Willard's famous painting The Spirit of 76 Yankee Doodle, which depicts the American War of Independence (information provided by Phil Cuskelly in February 2014). Posters advertise a building materials sale, together with a South Australia verses New South Wales cricket match at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Workmen stand in the foreground, one reading the advertising material. In the right foreground is a decorative gas lamp, and overhead are electric wires.
