To protest a new edict, issued by the Lord Mayor, which ordered all Council staff, regardless of rank or department, to be at work at Town Hall before the stroke of nine everyday. If one employee was late, all employees were to be punished. The Heads of the various departments pointed out that this edict did not make allowances for more 'senior' employees who often worked later hours and therefore arrived slightly later in the morning. The issue of the 'nine o'clock signing' was reported in the 'Sun' newspaper, angering the Lord Mayor. The edict was upheld despite protests.LanguageEnglish (eng)
