Volume 20/1 included consideration of the Gas Company laying a gas main along 'Lovers Walk' in Hyde Park and the refusal of the Hyde Park Improvement Committee to assist in the maintenance of these lamps (18 June 1857 & 25 June 1857); discussion of the Gas Company's inability to erect and light lamps in certain sections of the city until the arrival of new mains from England and consideration of the resulting insufficient supply of gas to the southern end of the city (2 & 30 July 1857, 27 August 1857, 14 October 1858, 11 November 1858); discussion of the necessity of erecting a three branch light at the watch house near the Benevolent Asylum at the junction of Pitt and George Streets (18 February 1858, 4 March 1858, 10 April 1858, 16 September 1858 & 4 August 1859); consideration of the Hyde Park Improvement Committee's desire to have ten gas lamps erected along the main avenue of the Park (6 May 1858); discussion of the lighting of the Council Chamber of the Town Hall with gas and the installation of a lamp over the door of the principal entrance to the building (6 May 1858); decision that the City Engineer should submit a scheme for the construction of gas works to supply the City with lights (5 August 1858); instruction to City Solicitor to report on whether the Council has the power to levy and collect a lighting rate (28 July 1859); discussion of the supply of gas to the George Street Markets (16 September 1859 & 29 December 1859); decision that the City Surveyor report on how many of the public lamps can be dispensed with in consequence of their contiguity to publican lamps (19 July 1860 & 9 August 1860).LanguageEnglish (eng)Digitised recordNo
