Stephen Butts and Edward James of Sydney, stating that they were surieties for the late Robert Jones, tenant of the Corporation Baths, and when he died in 1864 the baths were let to Charles Beaver. The petitioners were under the impression that Beaver had obtained new surieties however Butts was threatened with arrears of rent owed by Beaver. They also point out that the proceeds of the baths are inadequate to cover the rent and the state of repair is inferior to Robinsons Baths. They ask that the lease of the Corporation Baths be cancelled and they be released from present or future liabilities.
