Redfern Council had received a letter from the Town Clerk of Sydney Council which had suggested that repair and maintenance of Cleveland Street be divided between the two councils. This would be done by dividing the road into two portions (from the Botany Road to the east side of George Street; and from George Street to Elizabeth Street), and that the choice was given to Redfern Council to decide which portion they wanted.
