T. I attach report of Inspector of Pavements on this matter: by which it will be seen that Mr Thornton insisted on having condemned material relaid spite of the Inspector. If any effect is to be given to the resolution of Council direction that no stone of less than 4 inches in thickness should be relaid, the action taken by this office in this case should be upheld: ACM: 20/10/80. Inspector of Pavements re No. 38 King Street In attention to memo on the above notice, I have to report that a similar notice was served on Mr McGinnis (the tenant) on the 2nd August last. After which Mr F Newland a contractor was instructed by the owner to repair same and took out a license for such on the 9th Sepr. upon the stone being taken up I found it was of a very inferior quality & not according to printed specification, some of the stones being barely two (2") inches thick So I considered it my duty to condemn same, but the owner insisted upon the contractor putting back the condemned flags and replacing them - hence the issue of "Notice to repair" on the 16th Inst.: JAB; 20/10/80 LanguageEnglish (eng)Digitised recordYes
