Lambton, Deputy Postmaster General, Postal and Electric Telegraph Department, General Post Office, Sydney advising the Postmaster General has approved the following sections of tunnels; 1. Engine Street to Harris Street, Ultimo, 2. Barrack Street to Kent Street via Clarence & Erskine Streets and 3. Corner Newtown and Parramatta Road to Calder Road asking Mayor to sanction necessary openings. He would also like City Surveyor to report on condition of buildings in Engine Street in conjunction with Messrs McCredie the Engineers in charge of the tunnel works. Minute Paper of City Surveyor seeking more detail, advising Council should not accept any liability and that the letter indicates that danger to property is anticipated. Letter City Building Surveyor to Town Clerk regarding Mr McCredie wanting him to inspect the route and seeking instructions.
