(Note: 8/1/91 Ack. As numerous complaints have been from time to time made with reference to this gulley shaft The Mayor will be glad if Mr Richards will give the matter his serious attention with the view to abating the nuisances or removing the cause of same: HJD. Mr Smith has frequently written on the matter; 5/1/91. 5.1.91 Attached is a copy of my Minute on previous letter which will serve in reply to the Mayor's instructions. I would respectfully urge that the wood paving be completed with as little delay as possible: RWR. 2313 WE Smith Stench arising from manhole Bridge Street. The gully is perfect, the nuisance however it probably occasioned by the droppings etc. from the horses standing in cabs at the centre of this road immediately opposite Mr Smith's premises. Pending the completion of wood paving this area I have instructed that the roadway be swept as often as necessary to abate nuisance: 5.1.91.
