Unique IDA-00321187SeriesLetters Received, 1843-1899 [Municipal Council of Sydney]DateBetween 3rd January 1891 and 6th January 1891Date qualifierexactFormatVolume - HardcoverDescriptionLetter: George Rignold lessee Her Majesty's Theatre advising that Mr Pope Farmer & Co will be sharing the cost of asphalting the road outside the Theatre and requesting permission to proceed with work done by Chambers & Grocock Palmer St Woolloomooloo; followed by letter dated 19/12/90 complaining of the noise which penetrates through to the Theatre's auditorium from the woodblock road surface; followed by letter dated 3/1/91 to R W Richards advising of his letter re cost sharing, requesting the work be done & completed on the 10th. (Note: Permission granted under conditions specified by City Surveyor: HJD; 5/1/91. Notify City Surveyor. Minute: These letters are from Mr George Rignold, the latest dated applying for permission to top dress the wood pavement (in front of Her Majesty's Theatre) in Pitt Street. The best method to remove this annoyance is to take up the blocks and relay them with the 'butt joint' or as an alternative to temporarily serve the purpose a cheap top dressing. Mr Rignold now offers to have this cheap dressing carried out if the Mayor approve and in such event it should be subject to the following conditions. 1st That the Council in no wise accept any liability. 2nd That the top dressing be laid on sufferance only in such a manner and in such sctions as the City Surveyor may approve, and under such inspection as he may appoint. 3rd That the applicant undertakes all liability risk etc. in consequence of damage or accident that may arise on account of such top dressing being laid or having been laid. 4th That should it eventually prove undesirable, dangerous, inconvenient or in any other way affect the comfort & safety of the citizens, the said applicant will cause the same to be removed at his cost and within forty eight (48) hours of notice from the Municipal Council so to do: RSR;5/1/91. 6/1/91 Infd)LanguageEnglish (eng)Digitised recordYes
