Report on repairs to Balcony, contractor stopped (by Inspector) on 2 dates, and have written to lessees, Messrs J T & J Toohey. Columns are ornamental fluted ones and therefore are perfectly sound. Copy letters: 1. to: J O'Connell, Verona St Paddington: Balcony of Royal Standard Hotel cnr Bathurst & Castlereagh, is an encroachment over building line, repairs are illegal, stop [work]. 2. Mr Jas O'Connell, Verona St Paddington: continuance of repairs, after order to stop, unless work ceases, whole Balcony will have to be condemned as a nuisance under the Act. 3. Messrs Toohey, Standard Brewery, Elizabeth St: an encroachment, liable to be condemned as a common nuisance, cannot be repaired, matter is brought prominently before the T.C. by citizens.
