Unique IDAG-0109DescriptionThe Office of the Lord Mayor was established by Alderman Frank Sartor when he became Lord Mayor in September 1991. The first appointment was Janet Howse (formerly Manager of Records and Archives Services, Information Systems Department) who was seconded for twelve months from October 1991. The Office was allocated additional staff from early 1992, but the date of establishment is taken to be 1 October 1991. The Office is staffed largely by appointees from outside the Council on contract.
Prior to the establishment of this Office, support services for the Lord Mayor were provided by CA 30, Civic Affairs Department, 1989-1992. Lord Mayor Sartor adopted a more 'hands on' approach to his office than his immediate predecessors, and played a greater role in both policy formulation and day to day direction of Council business. On election, he resigned from his employment to take up the Lord Mayoralty as a full time task.CreationResolution of Council 10 February 1992
