Unique IDAS-0581DateBetween 9th January 1898 and 21st November 1949Date qualifiercircaFormatVolume - HardcoverDescriptionThis series of three volumes recorded notifications of infectious diseases, received from registered medical practitioners relating to patients residing in the Paddington area, as required under the Public Health Act 1896, Pt III Regulations. Many of the notifications were made by practitioners at hospitals such as St. Vincents, Coast Hospital, Royal Alexandra and Prince Henry (required under Regulation 16, Part III of the Act, gazetted 15 June, 1899).

The registers contained the following information set out in the Schedule B format: date of report; date of receipt of report; name of legally qualified medical practitioner notifying; patient's name; sex; age; disease; ward of municipality; address of premises at which patient or deceased person is. Other details recorded were: milk supply; school; residence at date of attack; health inspector visited and served notices (date); if a separate night soil service was provided; premises disinfected; any special matter requiring attention.

Diseases recorded included scarlett fever, diptheria, typhoid and TB.

This register appeared in the City of Sydney's 2017 exhibition "Our City - 175 Years in 175 Objects" - Item 75 - Building - Hygiene - Register of Infectious Disease Paddington, 1898-1933 (page 95 in exhibition catalogue)
