Register of Applicants for Public Housing

They record the name and address of the applicant, date of application, application number, date application form completed, accommodation required (usually number of bedrooms), points awarded to their case, date application submitted to Audit, date returned from Audit, dates of inspection, and remarks. The remarks column includes notes where the application form was not returned, the applicant was not at the address given etc.

On 18 July 1960 Council resolved to allocate tenancies of the individual units in its Housing Projects at Camperdown, Glebe, and Pyrmont under a "Point Score System". A questionnaire was sent to all applicants for tenancies of Council's premises whose names appeared on the waiting list. Points were allocated on the basis of inadequate living conditions, marriage status and number of dependents, whether they lived inside Council's boundaries and if they were employees of Council.

This Register was started as a result of this Resolution in 1960 but also includes information dating back to 1934 because of applicants on the waiting list.

The date ranges of the three volumes in this series overlap because if the pages allocated to names beginning with one letter filled up, they would start again in a new volume. The section for names beginning with "Z" from item 1 have been removed altogether and placed in volume 3.

Sometime in the mid-1980's the function of allocating public housing was transferred from CA 11, Properties Department II, to CA 6, Health and Community Services Department.

In November 1988, the Commissioners who had replaced Council in 1986, handed over the whole stock of residential rental property owned by Council to the State Department of Housing to administer.
