City Engineer's Photographs II
Description
Unique IDAS-0871DateBetween 1st January 1967 and 1st July 1973Date qualifiercircaFormatPhotograph - NegativeDescriptionThe records in this series consist of the black and white photographic prints and negatives taken by the Survey Section of the City Engineer's Department.
The photographs were taken by the surveyors to document road construction and reconstruction works, the condition of footpaths, flood damage, the site of accidents to members of the public, construction of Council buildings such as the Bay Street Depot, and damage to Council buildings such as the Capitol Theatre, excavation sites, Council staff and Council vehicles.
The photographs were indexed in CRS 872. These index cards were arranged alphabetically by street address or subject.
The prints and negatives were originally placed in manilla envelopes by the surveyors. These envelopes were numbered from 1 to 72. Each print had a typed description of the date and place of the photograph on the back. The negatives were placed in glassine envelopes which were given the same number as the print. Most of the envelopes contained the print and the negative. However, some held only the print or only the negative.
In 2005 the prints, negatives and manila envelopes, were encapsulated in polypropylene sleeves and placed in 14 photographic boxes. Some of the prints appear to have been incorporated into the Sydney Reference Collection.Relationship summaryCONTROLLED BY: Index to City Engineers Photographs II AS-0872 (01/01/1967 to 01/01/1973)
