Lord Mayors' Correspondence and Subject Files, 1958-1982

Unique IDAS-0917DateBetween 1st January 1958 and 1st January 1982Date qualifiercircaFormatManila FolderDescriptionThe records in this series were the correspondence and subject files created mostly by David Taylor, the Lord Mayor's Secretary.

The folders contain the letters received and copies of letters sent, as well as invitations, photographs, travel papers, menus, the Minutes of the Meetings of the Caucus of ALP Aldermen in the 1981, and the Lord Mayor's Secretary's personal papers.

The official copies of letters sent by the Lord Mayors and Commissioners were kept in letter books in CRS 67, Lord Mayor's Correspondence, 1958-1982, but this series does not contain any of the letters received.

Most of the files in this series deal with overseas trips made by the Lord Mayor. Other subjects include the trip by Lord Mayor Jensen to the United Kingdom and the USA to interest buyers in land owned by Council in Martin Place, the Sydney/San Francisco sister city relationship, official luncheons and dinners, royal visits, and the amalgamation with South Sydney Municipal Council in 1982.

The photographs depicting Lord Mayor David Griffin with a delegation of Sydney City Council to Moscow in 1973 have been digitised and placed in the Sydney Reference Collection. They are available on the online photographic catalogue, ArchivePix. Copies of the original prints have been retained in the manila folders of CRS 917.
