Unique IDAY-0027Description*** This activity applies to the City of Sydney only ***
The provision of secretarial, speechwriting, policy, administrative and other services to the Mayor (Lord Mayor from 1902).
Until the election of Lord Mayor Frank Sartor in 1991 these arrangements were somewhat adhoc and on a relatively small scale. Normally a secretary/typist and an orderly or messenger constituted the Lord Mayor's total permanently-assigned staff and other services were provided as needed by Council departments.
From 1991-1992 there has been an Office of the Lord Mayor (headed by a Chief of Staff) as a separate department within the Council administrative structure. Personnel have usually been appointed on contract from outside the Council.CreationSubject to research
