On the left is the business of Quan Hing Lee Kee. At 411 1/2 is Harry Conn and Agent Wing Tye. At 411 is Kwong Mow On & Company Importers with advertising posters for Lowes Coasts and a ball. Further along the street is a wooden fence with painted sign James Lett, and a hanging lantern sign for rooms to let for men. Electric light pole stands in contrast to gas lamp in the centre. Workmen stand on footpath, opposite wooden barricades diverting traffic. Tall cranes in the distance are busy constructing Anthony Hordern & Son’s enormous new retail emporium on Brickfield Hill. A number of Chinese businesses, factories and lodging houses rented shopfronts in Fox’s Buildings opposite, including Quan Hing’s store and Kwong Mow On & Co, importers.
