In 1925 the Sutherland Shire Council took over a private electric plant being run in Croa, and decided to reticulate the whole of the Shire. This work was completed in 1926, and since that date large extensions have been carried out, and the total amount of loan money expended in the electricity reticulation of the whole Shire is £117,000, together with approximately £60,000, which has been spent from funds derived from the profits of the undertaking. In 1926 the rate charged by the Council for light was 6d a unit, power 3d a unit. The minimum charge was 12/6 per quarter, and meter rent 1/- a meter a month. Today, the rate is as low as a penny a unit with no meter rent. (Smiths Weekly)LanguageEnglish (eng)
