Having a large family to support and unable to do hard labour through old age, request permission to keep a stall in Belmore Markets for sale of coffee and rolls, as Mr Thompson now has. I am 61 years of age, 44 years in the colony. Mr Ald Wood and Rev Vidal [ref on bottom of letter: resides in parish, steady, hard working, Incumbent of Christ Church] will testify. Also reference with John Walton adddress 393 Sussex St, note theron, not required for public accommodation or the interest of the market. Notes: 1.John Carruthers, Clerk of Market, detailed histroy of street side coffee vendors and complaint. Owners of property in the neighbourhhood complained about street vendors as they have expense of fitted up accommodation, Mr Moore visited on a Saturday, and permitted one only to vendor (Mr Thompson) on a market morning where persons served could see his horse and produce. This does not interfere with property owners. Mr Walton has a stall in Geo St opposite the Campbell St shed and has tried to vend on our side, was removed by Police.
