C H Woolcott, Town Clerk,Town Clerks Office,Sydney. Urging the Mayor and the Aldermen to again consider taking further steps to discover the offender responsible for destruction and abstraction of Council records.
On 17th May, at 9.45am it was discovered that Mr Bacon's plotted plan of 'Sewery of Botany Watershed' was removed; on Monday 17th June, 10am in the City Engineers Office, it was discovered that The Register of Works Orders had all entries removed, the Press Letter Book had Quarter Portion removed, and the Book of Reports on Letters, Petitions etc had been destroyed. Also destroyed were Mr Walsh, Clerk of the City Surveyor reports. On the 19th June, the Daily Images Book, Register of Downpipe Holes, Cash Book, Agistment Register 2, also 200 -300 letters and petitions had been removed, 60 pages from Press Letter Book, and Mr Bacon's notes on his survey of Botany removed from Mr Mountain's Office.
There is an anonymous letter attached to Woolcott's report, signed "The Destroying Angel". This had been pinned to the City Surveyor's desk and lists grievances against various Council employees including the Mayor. After all enquiries were inconclusive by Police, on 20 June the matter was placed back in Council's hands.LanguageEnglish (eng)Digitised recordYes
