James McNeill, Cab Driver, 224 William Street Woolloomooloo.To the Mayor and Aldermen asking to be recompensed for damages to his cab caused by a pot hole whilst carrying a Lady and Getleman who live on the corner of Riley and Albion Street Surry Hills from the Exibition in the foggy morning between 3 and 4am. Although driving for 22 years cautiously, personal injury was sustained and he has a family with seven children to support. A further letter (No704 dated 30/7/1872) itemised invoice dated 23/7/1872 is attached for £5 from W. Wainman, Coach Builder, Old South Head Road. Thomas Bradridge in a note dated 8/8/1872 states the metal road surface from Devonshire Street to the North of Cooper Street terminates in a rut across Riley to Albion Street.This could attribute to an accident if proper care of the vehicle was not taken.
