Through the negligence of Corporation officials failing to enclose a hole in a lane off Charles St Woolloomooloo, a horse belonging to me was killed on evening of Tuesday the 24th inst. I am a poor man gaining a living by selling wood and coal, and am partly the support of my mother and family, left without support through my horse being killed, request every justice. Notes: 1. Mr Smithers for report; 2.Connected to City Eng Dept; 3.Referred to City Eng; 4.J Trevor Jones, City Eng:The trench was properly enclosed and lighted, horse was released some distance from the spot and making his own way to stable; 5.Since writing the above, informed by a little boy, Jospeh Stafford, who saw transaction, that a son of Johnstone's was in charge, he lifted the rail and led the horse into the trench which if true, relieves the Corporation from responsibility. 6.Ent'd LanguageEnglish (eng)Digitised recordYes
