(Note: This is a letter from the Police Department and dated 1st June inst. requesting that the stone cubes in Union Lane, from the Eastern end of the Station to Pitt Street, be substituted by wood paving. The Lane is at present paved with cube setts. It is not desirable to pave Lanes of this width with wood, especially when running East and West, but in the circumstances represented it seems to me almost essential that the rule be departed from when all possible precautions against slipperiness and every attention to cleanliness must be exercised.
