Unique IDAG-0145DescriptionIn January 1984 a special event called Japan Week was held in Sydney. Sydney's Sister City Nagoya was involved and because of this, Council voted to contribute $12,000 to the festivities at a meeting on 5 December 1983.
On 22 February 1984, Alderman J A Bradford convened a meeting to "consider the question of whether there should be further Japan Weeks, and if so, when they should be held". It was resolved at this meeting that further weeks should be held and that
those present at the meeting would constitute a Japan Week Committee. The Committee is responsible for the organisation and coordination of all activities connected with Japan Week.
The members of the Committee in 1984 included: Alderman J A Bradford, R D Stringer and A Stevens, Officers of Sydney City Council, and representatives from the Japanese Consulate, the Sydney Committee, the NSW Department of Tourism, the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Japanese Society of NSW, the Japan Club of Sydney, the Australia-Japan Society, the Sydney Convention and Visitors Bureau, and the Japan National Tourist Organisation.
