Unique IDAG-0223DescriptionThis agency was created following the re-amalgamation of South Sydney City Council with the City of Sydney in February 2004. The interim organisational structure comprised a City Works Northern Zone (Director, Gary Harding) and a City Works Southern Zone (Director, Ron Wilcoxon), with these divisions integrated and renamed (City Works) as outlined in the CEO’s email to staff 28 June 2004. Ron Wilcoxon retired and Gary Harding took up the newly integrated post of Director, City Works.

Renamed (City Services) on 4 March 2005. Renamed (City Operations) in CEO's email to staff 12 January 2006. Renamed (City Community & Cultural Services) in revised organisation chart 31 January 2007. Renamed (City Operations) around July 2010.

By 2006 the division comprised the units of Cleansing and Waste, Maintenance Services, City Rangers, Security and Business Development, and Venue Management. City Operations absorbed the Transport & Major Projects directorate (Agency 240) by 31 March 2009. By 2014 the division comprised the units of Cleansing and Waste, City Greening and Leisure, City Rangers, Security and Emergency Management, City Infrastructure and Traffic Operations, Venue Management, and Strategy and Assets.
