Unique IDAY-0095Description*** This activity applies to the City of Sydney only ***
Provision of funds to bodies outside the Council for purposes which the Council wishes to support or in order to achieve some Council objective.
The creation of CA 104, Lord Mayors Patriotic Fund I (1914) may be considered the start of this activity, but widespread use of grants as an activity seems to postdate the 1960s. For example in 1969 the Council ended its long-running scheme of providing relief work for the unemmployed over Christmas and substituted donations to charities.
Funding may have been provided to the Waratah Festival from the mid 1950s onwards, and the Council continues to support the Festival of Sydney.
