The Sydney Committee was formed in 1956 to organise an annual spring festival known as the Waratah Festival, and the annual Australia Day celebrations. It is Chaired by the Lord Mayor of Sydney, with the Premier of NSW as President. The Town Clerk, City Treasurer, and Lord Mayor's Secretary had honorary positions as Secretary, Treasurer, and Assistant Secretary.

The files deal mostly with the organisation of the yearly festivals. They were kept by the Lord Mayor's Secretaries, in their capacity as Assistant Honorary Secretaries of the Sydney Committee.
