Records from meetings of the Sydney Committee accumulated by the City Treasurer

-Treasury II (AG-0027) in the period 01/01/1989 to 31/12/1992.

The Sydney Committee was established in 1956 by the Lord Mayor to conduct events such as Spring Festivals and Australia Day celebrations. It included representatives from the State government, the Sydney City Council and the city business communities and was serviced by a small number of paid staff, supplemented by Council officers such as the City Treasurer. Mr G Healy was the first honorary joint treasurer, and succeeded by his successor, in the City Treasurer's job, Mr E Small in 1959. There is a gap in the accumulation between 1959 and 1970, when Mr Bill Wightman became honorary treasurer, succeeding JN O'Dea as City Treasurer.

The earlier records consist of copies of minutes of meetings of the Executive Committee of the Sydney Committee from 13 April 1956-21 September 1960, with occasional notices of meetings, held in a manilla folder. There is also a folder of reports, 1956-1958, on the major activities of the Sydney Committee such as the Waratah Spring Festival, which were presented to the Committee.

The second group of records includes a copy of the Lord Mayor's minute of 19 April 1956 from AS-0034, TC 1777/56 which proposed the establishment of the Sydney Committee. The two folders (red and blue) hold primarily:
- the financial statements prepared by the joint treasurers (the other was JB Griffin) over the six years
-copies of minutes of meetings of the executive committee (rarely of the full committee)
-copies of minutes and reports proposing new directions for the committee
-papers relating to the incorporation of the Sydney Committee.
Some of these papers are duplicated in the Town Clerk's Correspondence Files, TC 1777/56, but the financial papers and executive committee meeting records are not.

Meetings are held fortnightly and there are two copies of the agenda papers for each meeting in the series.

In 1994, more records, created between 1987 and 1992, of the Sydney Committee from the office of the City Treasurer were transferred to the Archives.
