Leichhardt Building and Development Application Cards (Glebe), 1949-1999

Unique IDAS-1099DateBetween 11th May 1949 and 18th June 1999Date qualifiercircaFormatCardDescriptionThese cards record building and development applications lodged with Leichhardt Municipal Council for the Glebe area that was transferred from the City of Sydney to Leichhardt in August 1968, and then transferred back to the City of Sydney on 8 May 2003.

The building applications cards are small index cards. A separate card was raised for each property as the applications were received. There are no cards for properties where no applications have been received. The cards record the address of the premises, date of application, type of construction, file number, and date completed. The "date completed" column can also record details such as cancellation of application, disapproval, date of approval, date building certificates were issued, and if the application was superseded.

The back of the card records details of any legal proceedings. The cards also note if the house was a "house let in lodgings". The cards were also used to record stop work orders.

Some of the file numbers on the cards have "MF" written next to them which means the file was microfilmed.

The development application cards are A4-sized. As with the building application cards, a separate card was raised for each property for which an application had been received. The cards record the address of the premises, the DA number, applicant, proposal, P.O. (planning officer initials?), date of advertising, referral, Council meeting/Minute No./Decision, and appeal. The P.O., advertising, and referral columns are rarely completed.

The "Council meeting/minute no/decision" column records disapprovals, withdrawal of applications, and date of approval, and sometimes the decision made.

The cards were created after the Glebe area was transferred to Leichhardt in 1968, but occasionally information about previous applications lodged with the City of Sydney have been added to the cards by Leichhardt for information purposes. The earliest building application noted on the cards is from 1952, and the earliest development application noted is from 1949.
