Unique IDAS-1044DateBetween 31st August 1968 and 8th May 2003Date qualifiercircaFormatRegistered FileDescriptionThis records series has been registered to bring together all the general subject and correspondence files transferred to the City of Sydney from Leichhardt Municipal Council, following the transfer of Glebe from Leichhardt to the City effective 8 May 2003.

Because this series lumps all transferred files together, it should be regarded as an artifical compilation, which does not take account of different Leichhardt recordkeeping systems that have been in use, and are represented in the files. It is apparent from the variety of numbering systems and file covers that several different recordkeeping systems are represented. However all of them have been managed as centralised (registry controlled) records systems.

All files in this records series have been registered into the City of Sydney's TRIM records management system.

The great bulk of files transferred are applications files relating to building and development applications lodged for properties in Glebe during 1968-2003. The other significant category is property files: holding documentation for individal properties in Glebe such as complaints from property owners (whether affecting the property or not) rates correspondence, and inspection/compliance matters. Between 1998 and first half of 1999 applications for a property were put on the one file (as opposed to having separate files for separate applications as previously done) and file numbers began with D0. After June 1999, the Council returned to filing applications separately.

There are also legal files. There are few subject files as such. They are mostly about management of parks and public spaces in Glebe.

There are some files in this series that are photocopies of the original files, which continue to be held by Leichhardt Council. The copies were made in cases where a file was required after 8 May 2003 by both Councils.

Although the records transferred to the City in May/June 2003 no longer had documents added by Leichhardt Municipal Council, some files in the series are likely to remain open for some months, for use by the City of Sydney, and will continue to have documents added.

Plans associated with applications files have been removed and assigned to CRS 1048, except where the bulk has been small enough to allow the plans to remain folded with the files.
