Unique IDA-00438227SeriesReports of the Finance Committee I [Municipal Council of Sydney]DateBetween 7th May 1896 and 30th June 1896FormatVolume - Leather BoundDescriptionReport of the Finance Committee recommending acceptance of the Mayor's report on retrenchment, firstly, to dispense with the services of the following officers from 30 June next: Richard Seymour, Inspector of Nuisances, and James Dowe, Assistant City Surveyor, both with granting of six month's salary in consideration of length of service and the following surveyors and draughtsmen, EB Paton, GS Withers and EE Jones and, secondly, to set the salary of the Assistant Inspector of Nuisances at £300 pa from 30 June. Appended: Report of Mayor to Finance Committee proposing Retrenchment (on letterhead, IE Ives, Argyle Bonded & Free Warehouses, Sydney). The report commends and outlines the performance of the City Surveyor's Department in recent years but recommends retrenchments of officers, reduction by one half of the day labour staff (engaged in wood paving, kerbing, construction of gullies etc) and dispensation with services of 3 masons, 2 tar pavers, 5 labourers and 3 gully flushers; retention of 2 carters in the street maintenance gang. In relation to the Inspector of Nuisances Department, the report recommends the retrenchment of Richard Seymour and payment of six month's salary on retirement; salary of the office to be £400 pa and salary of Mr Baker to be £300; re-organisation of the system of gangers including reduction of numbers by one half and reduction of rate of wages.LanguageEnglish (eng)Digitised recordNo
