Appended: Report of Mayor to Finance Committee proposing Retrenchment (on letterhead, IE Ives, Argyle Bonded & Free Warehouses, Sydney). The report commends and outlines the performance of the City Surveyor's Department in recent years but recommends retrenchments of officers, reduction by one half of the day labour staff (engaged in wood paving, kerbing, construction of gullies etc) and dispensation with services of 3 masons, 2 tar pavers, 5 labourers and 3 gully flushers; retention of 2 carters in the street maintenance gang.
