The Committee reported on the failure of the previous attempt to build baths by private enterprise in return for a free lease of the revenue, recommended new specifications for baths with provision for both free access and paid access and advocated the provision of safe and freely available bathing enclosures. Appended: Memo from Chas H Woolcott, Town Clerk, with Council resolution to refer the matter of the construction of public baths back to the Committee as the only tender received, that of Thomas Robinson, was not in accord with the specifications; Letter from Thomas Robinson offering to build Public Baths at Figtree but wishing to vary the specifications, particularly in the matter of charges to patrons, and requesting a 21 year lease; Resolution of Improvement Committee, 20 November 1857; Memos by Edward Bell, City Engineer.LanguageEnglish (eng)Digitised recordNo
