Unique IDA-00441083SeriesReports of the Improvement Committee [Municipal Council of Sydney]DateBetween 28th March 1854 and 9th March 1858FormatVolume - Leather BoundDescriptionReport of the Improvement Committee recommending that Robert Maze be permitted to withdraw from his contract to supply blue metal from the Pennant Hills Quarry and that the specification for supply be altered so as to allow the contractor to occupy a portion only of the Quarry and the Wharf (in view of the Government sanctioned operations there by William Tunks to supply material for the roadway for the Pyrmont Bridge Co) and that tenders be called. Appended: Letter from Department of Land and Public Works Sydney notifying that William Tunks has been granted permission to take metal from the Government Quarry at Pennant Hills to supply the Pyrmont Bridge Co provided that existing arrangements with the Sydney Council are not interfered with; annotation by Edward Bell giving the historical authority for the City to use Pennant Hills Quarry and details of the amounts of stone delivered by Tunks to the City; Letter from William Tunks, Kissing Point, Ryde stating his willingness to co-operate with Maze but complaining of offers made to his workmen of higher pay and of their being made drunk; Letter from Robert Maze stating that, although Tunks has promised no obstacles, in fact the obstacles do and will exist and unless he is given sole rights to occupy the wharf and quarry he will be unable to fulfil his contract and that he believes he should also be compensated for the time he has spent on the matter; Memo from Chas H Woolcott, Town Clerk, stating his understanding of the positions of Maze and Tunks; Letter from Department of Land and Public Works Sydney stating the terms of the agreement with Tunks, informing that the Department has sent a letter to Tunks that unless the ground of complaint ceased, permission would be withdrawn.LanguageEnglish (eng)Digitised recordNo
