Appended: Memo from Edward Bell, City Engineer, with estimate and specification for improvement to drainage in the vicinity of South St and recommendation for clearing of a water-course/ditch to temporarily improve matters; Letter from Holden McCarthy, Castlereagh St, for A Fisher, complaining of damage to his houses from overflow drainage entering the basements; annotation by Richard Driver, City Solicitor; annotation by Edward Bell, City Engineer, noting that the Corporation probably caused water to be directed into the ditch behind the affected properties, as stated by Mr Fisher and Mr Murphy, and as explained by Mr Parker who states the action was done by order of the late Mayor; Memo from Henry Graham, Health Officer, reporting that on inspection of the houses of Mr Fisher, he finds them almost unfit for occupation, the cause being that the drain at the rear of the houses has overflowed into yards and closets, a very bad smell arises and the nuisance is injurious to health; Letter from James Murphy and A Fisher complaining of the condition of South St, formerly known as Flood's Lane; annotations by Edward Bell, City Engineer, with history of the complaints and details of the drainage and actions taken or recommended.LanguageEnglish (eng)Digitised recordNo
