John Bibb writes on behalf of Captain Bainbridge and calls attention to the alignment of Cumberland Street. The Captain, having purchased an allotment in that street, excavated and took out an inferior foundation, then applied to the City Surveyor. The Officer then set back the building line by 8 feet from the front of the grounds on the authority of an alignment claimed in 1842. Since this proclamation a range of houses adjoining this property have been built without setbacks, one being even closer to the street.
