His tenants in Duncan St have complained of the disgusting nuisance caused by residents of the row of houses known as 'Golden's Buildings' where there is only 1 W.C. for the row and it fronts to the street; so these residents use buckets, etc. which are emptied into the street at night along with the rest of their rubbish and the police are apparently powerless to prevent this. (Note: 27/2/75 Seymour. With reference to Mr Barker's letter of 25th Ultimo, I have the honor to report that I have inspected the row of houses "Golden's Building" Duncan Street, and find that, as stated, there is but one water closet, a patent one, to the row consisting of five houses, which have no back yards, occupied by 29 persons - The closet is nearly in the centre of the row, and lies back from the street, and we cannot compel the owner to erect any more. With regard to the gutter, I beg to state that I have never myself, nor have any of the scavengers on that beat, seen any night soil or filth in it, but on the contrary, I have always remarked the cleanliness of the street: RS.Insp of Nuisances; 3/3/75.)LanguageEnglish (eng)Digitised recordYes
