Edward Bell, City Engineer, responding to the instructions of the Improvements Committee to report on the advisability and cost of repairing the rough stone gutter in Elizabeth Street from Albion Street to Mrs Hughes's gate. He reports that the gutter is washed away in several places between Albion Street and the fence of a paddock opposite the Burial Ground Wall and the backing of the gutter on the footpath side also. It is very necessary to repair the gutter and he would recommend that the backing up should be done with ballast. He estimates that the cost will not exceed £18.
