City Solicitor to the Town Clerk forwarding a report complied by the previous City Solicitor before his death. He has reviewed the report and agrees with his conclusions. The report deals with ownership formerly occupied by the Central Police Court and now part of Queen Victoria Markets. He traces the history of the ownership of the land since the 1810 proclamation by Governor Macquarie designating a new market area [18 page report]. His opinion is that the Police Court site until purchased by the Council was Crown Land and the Council had no title to the land or any claim to recover the purchase money.
