Douglass, and William Tight, Sydney to The Mayor on behalf of licensed Hawkers and Dealers at the Belmore Markets complaining about the short weighting happening at the markets. In particular on the 16th instance three half hundredweights of potatoes purchased which when weighed on the Market scales were 54, 55 & 54lbs including cabbage leaves in one. Mr Patrick the Market Clerk refused to offer any redress. Report from Clerk of Markets that they were indeed four pounds short and other vendor offered to make up the deficiency or return his money but Mr Tight refused either and next day asked for 10/- compensation.
