Unique IDOR-0014DescriptionThe Festival of Sydney Ltd is a non-profit organisation registered as a company limited by guarantee. It is responsible for organising the annual Festival of Sydney that has taken place every January since 1977. On the 4 September 1995 the name of the organisation was changed from the Sydney Committee Limited to the Festival of Sydney Limited when the Sydney Committee went into voluntary liquidation. The organisation is deemed to have been created by the appointment of Stephen Hall as Executive Director (later General Manager) of the Sydney Committee on 3 November 1975. Following his appointment, permanent staff were appointed to run the yearly Festival. By 1992 the Festival's staff included the General Manager, who reports to the Board, an Office Manager, an Operations Manager, a Business & Corporate Affairs Manager, a Marketing and Publicity Manager, and Director of the Carnivale. Prior to Stephen Hall's appointment, the Sydney Committee was serviced by staff of Sydney City Council.
