The files relating to street matters were allocated numbers from the register in a block ranging from 2000 to 2452. It was created by the Deputy Town Clerk's Department (AG-0020) at South Sydney Municipal Council in the period 01/08/1968 to 31/12/1981.

Street matters include the condition and repair of footpaths, roadways and lanes, drainage, kerbing and guttering, etc. The papers are registered in files according to the name of the street.

The streets were listed alphabetically and numbered from 2000 to 2452. As files were raised for each street they were given the primary classification number, then a running single number. For example, Dowling Street South was classified as 2129, and files relating to it were numbered 2129/1, 2129/2, 2129/3, and so on.

To understand the numbering system used in AS-0106 it is helpful to have a familiarity with Stripdex Index to General Correspondence Files [South Sydney Municipal Council] (AS-0104). In AS-0104, for example, Dowling Street has been allocated the number 129. All of the streets in AS-0106 have the same street numbers used in AS-0104, with the prefix '2', so street matters files in AS-0106 on Dowling Street will be numbered '2129'.
